Keep the Bandage On
- Leave the bandage or plastic wrap applied by your tattoo artist on for the recommended time (usually overnight).
Wash Your Hands First & Gently Clean the Tattoo
- Remove the bandage carefully.
- Wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and fragrance-free soap or Hustle Butter Wsoap (sold in shop). Use your fingertips—do not use a washcloth or sponge.
- Pat dry gently with a clean paper towel.
Apply a Thin Layer of Aftercare Ointment
- Use a recommended tattoo aftercare ointment (like Hustle Butter, sold in shop).
- Apply a very thin layer to keep the skin hydrated, but don’t overdo it—your skin needs to breathe.
Re-Bandaging
- Follow re-bandaging instructions given by your artist.
Moisturize Regularly
- Continue applying a fragrance-free, moisturizer 2–3 times daily to prevent dryness and cracking.
Avoid Picking or Scratching
- As the tattoo heals, it will scab and peel—this is normal. Do not pick, scratch, or peel the scabs to avoid pulling out ink or causing scarring.
Protect from Sun Exposure
- Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight during the healing process (usually 2–4 weeks).
- Once healed, always use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) on your tattoo to maintain its vibrancy.
Avoid Submerging in Water
- Do not soak your tattoo in water—avoid baths, pools, hot tubs, and the ocean for at least 2–3 weeks.
- Quick showers are fine, but avoid prolonged exposure to water.
Wear Loose Clothing
- Opt for loose, breathable clothing that won’t rub against your tattoo or trap moisture.
Monitor for Signs of Infection
- Redness, swelling, excessive warmth, pus, or a fever may indicate an infection. Contact your tattoo artist or a healthcare professional if you notice these signs.
Follow Your Artist’s Advice
- Every tattoo artist may have slightly different recommendations based on their techniques and your skin type. Always prioritize their instructions.
Long-Term Care Tips:
- Keep your tattoo moisturized even after healing to preserve its color and detail.
- Stay hydrated and maintain healthy skin habits to prolong your tattoo’s appearance.
